The 2006 Honda Ridgeline formally known as “Jhonda” was purchased by Jay as a step up from his 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee he previously drove. Purchased with 201,943 miles, this new vehicle had about 60,000 more miles than the Jeep. You might be thinking, why on earth would he get rid of the Jeep for the Honda? Well, he has that very thought every morning when he gets out of bed. The Ridgeline got about 5 more miles to the gallon and it was a truck shape, so it must be better, right? Wrong.

The story of Jhonda the Ridgeline began on this day and had nothing but a huge future ahead before an abrupt downfall.

Put simply, Jay backed into a parking garage pole while looking backwards; almost tearing the drivers side mirror completely off and leaving a dent in the front left fender than will forevermore be seen in the pictures of Jhonda moving forward. Despite the mirror never attaching correctly again, it was fixed by duct tape multiple times for the year following before Jay finally put a hose clamp around it to keep it more secure. Miraculously, the electronic tilt and warmer features both continued to work on the mirror despite the brutal altercation with the parking garage pillar.

The broken mirror can be seen in Burnout Episode 4.

One of the craziest things that could happen to a car in any driveway, actually happened to Jay’s Honda. The picture to the left is not fake or photoshopped. To hear the full story, click on the link below.

The tree on the Ridgeline story can be found in this Burnout Extra.

A friend of Jay’s broke down in their Jeep Liberty due to a transmission leak. Ultimately that friend got stuck in a parking lot and could not shift into any gear because all of the fluid in his transmission had leaked out. The trans was bone dry and the car was in neutral- no matter what gear it was shifted in. Without any real tow chains, Jay used 3 ratchet straps and connected it to his Ridgeline. Jay’s friend drove in the truck and Jay hopped in the Jeep Liberty. They traveled 6.9 miles before reaching their destination, all while traveling 20 miles per hour as Jay tried to prevent the Jeep from rear ending his own daily driver.

The Daily Drivers episode of Burnout contributed to the issues which the Ridgeline had begun to face. Ryan and Jay both pushed their cars around a small coned track for an episode which ultimately turned out as great content for The Burnout Show channel.

Both daily drivers can be found in Burnout Episode 4.

Plasti-Dip was applied to Jay’s rims in order to have a matte black look to them. He also applied Plasti-Dip to the “Honda” and “Ridgeline” logos on the tailgate of the vehicle.

After grinding on the rotors for a day, the front brake pads and rotors were completely replaced. The picture shows one of the old brake pads on the right and just how far it had worn through.

Just two months after replacing the front brakes on this wannabe truck, the back brakes had sprung a leak. Pulling into a parking lot, Jay noticed that when at a complete stop, the brake pedal continued going to the floor; it had no stopping point. He later found a leak right near the back passenger side caliper. After walking to the parts store to get a caliper, he limped the car back to his house to do the repair. Ironically enough, not only did Jay have a set of rear brake pads (brand new) sitting in his car, it wasn’t the pads, nor the caliper that was the issue. He installed them anyways, then limped the car to another store where he could get the rubber flex line that threads into the caliper. He installed that not too long later and it has worked like a charm since.

The day had come where the Honda Ridgeline engine could take no more. After leaving a cloud of smoke down every street he traveled, Jay was burning through more oil than he was gas. It got so bad that for the last week of driving it, he would add quarts of used oil every morning and burn through enough throughout the day that he would need to add more the next day. It was bad. Jay decided to give the seat covers and aftermarket grille to a friend with a much better Ridgeline then sold the car. This is one of the last photos of Jhonda.
