The Rotinental

Pre-2000s - November 2017

This not-so-luxurious 1969 Continental sat in this very spot (as seen in the picture) for over 25 years. Despite the Ford 460 big block staying dormant for multiple decades, The Rotinental was begging to be pulled from the woods to be back on the roads again.

This was the day that the Lincoln was waiting for. After filling the tires with air and seeing the true stance of the beast, we pulled the car from the woods using a tow chain. Almost running ourselves over with the car, we pulled it down into the driveway where we would undergo surgery on the beloved automobile.

Pulling the car out can be seen in Burnout Episode 2.

A few updates were needed, such as a new Ford relay switch, a new battery, new battery cables and a carburetor rebuild. Once installed, the 460 engine came to life once again and idled with no problems. From there, the remainder of the week involved repairing the brake lines in 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

All which can be seen in Burnout Episode 2.

With greater luck than a leprechaun finding a pot of gold, St. Patricks Day 2018 was the exact day that The Rotinental was on the roads again. Ignoring the multiple feet of snow that had accumulated days prior, we took the car up and down the street, struggling to get the 5000+ pound car back up the hill.

The first ride can be found in Burnout Episode 2.

Overall, The Lincoln was running rough. When turning the steering wheel all the way to one direction, so much stress was put on the power steering pump that the car would die doing tight turns. After a couple times of restarting it, the starter got stuck on while the engine was running. Jay noticed that while the car was idling at the top of the driveway and knew that that was the last time the Lincoln would run in a while. They then took out the starter and began to strip the floors due to the danger of the holes in the floors.

A portion of this footage can be seen in Burnout Episode 2.

The 1969 Continentals were a unibody car throughout. There is no true frame on the vehicle that detaches from the body, and the panels do not separate from one another, but are instead all one piece. In absolute rookie fashion, Ryan and Jay slightly bent the unibody on the passenger side of the vehicle. The rear passenger side door never closed the same, and after finding out that the Ford 460 would not be an easy fit into the new 1957 Ford Ranchero previously purchased, it was decided that the project be put on the back burner and the Lincoln return to its resting place until further action was brought up.

A gentleman by the name of Ray asked if The Rotinental was for sale. Being a metal worker from the area, he has the knowledge and skills needed to fix the unibody Lincoln the right way. With the agreement that Jay would receive a ride once the car is complete, Jay’s dad ended up agreeing on a price and the car was officially sold later that day. This was the last picture The Burnout Show ever took of the 1969 Lincoln Continental that had sat in that very spot for over 30 years.
